Concert WitnessesDave Matthews and Britney Spears Help Save ChildrenFor two hours on Monday night, May 13, pro-lifers greeted Dave Matthews Band fans with aborted baby posters and street preaching as they arrived at the Coors Amphitheatre. Steve Klein, director of San Diego Chrisitans United, said, "We reached somewhere between 25,000 to 100,000 ... official count, probably 20,000 as that's what the amphitheater holds, but the volume of cars never stopped, and I estimate that only 1/5 to 1/3 of the people who showed up actually went inside; the rest came for the zoo of the Mardi Gras atmosphere [tailgate parties] in the huge parking lot." According to an April, 2001 press release from Rock for Life, the Dave Matthews Band allowed Planned Parenthood to distribute condoms during a concert last year at the University of Virginia. The band is listed as pro-abortion on Rock for Life's website. On Wednesday, June 5, pro-lifers demonstrated at the Britney Spears concert at San Diego State University. According to Klein, SDSU security personnel assisted in procuring "a little grassy, barricaded area between two major sidewalks" for the group's protest. "The celebrities got dropped off inches in front of us; Britney Spears made a beeline for the door. The police were hovering very close to us in a nice, polite, and professional way." "For months now," said Klein the next day in an e-mail message to supporters, "Christians United has been trying to put together an event to get at least 8,000 teen girls to see the truth about abortion. Nothing has worked. Our budget just could not handle it, and frankly had we thrown in all 74 cents. it would not have bought enough advertising to get 8,000 teen girls to come and see the horrifying truth of abortion. BUT.... "Last night, Britney Spears paid for all the advertising and put on a huge gig for Christians United so we could be there when 8,000 teen girls could walk past our gauntlet of signs.... The pictures said more than a million words as we let the Truth be known." |
