Starting February 12Help Circulate Petitions to Put Parents Right to Know Back on November BallotIn early February, petitions for the Parents Right to Know and Child Protection initiative should hit the streets. This initiative, known as Proposition 73 in the November 2005 election, came the closest to winning (five percent) of all eight ballot measures in last November's special election. This is despite the fact that Yes on 73 spent the least of the 16 Yes and No sides for the eight initiatives. For the November 2006 election, initiative backers hope to enlist nearly all of the state's 1000 Catholic parishes in gathering signatures. If the volunteers can gather an average of 500 signatures per parish over the four Sundays February 12,19, 26, and March 5, that will help save resources for the fall campaign. Petitions, flyers, and DVDs with video spots made for last year's Proposition 73 campaign will be available for every parish in the state. Materials will be in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese. To help gather signatures in your parish, call (866) 828-8355 or e-mail Janet@ParentsRight2Know.org. |
