HIS LITTLE FLOCK

A little word of thanks and prayer. Your article [on St. Ephrem Maronite Catholic Church] made a history in the Maronite history of San Diego. With this we are also united in the front of God to His worthy cause. Because you brought to the light one of His little flock that followed Him almost 1700 years. You made by His Grace the difference.... God bless you. Thank you."

KOREANS BEST PART

Finally, some inspiring news in your paper about UCSD that makes the bishop out as a hero (January issue). Thanks to him and to Monsignor Callahan for pressing to replace the Paulists with some good Domincans. And shame on those parishioners who won't find a regular parish and leave the Newman Center to the students. The best part of the story was the Korean students at UCSD who are part of the John Paul II generation who drive down to the San Diego Mission for a normal liturgy.

THE A-WORD

Is Daniel Ramirez in the Imperial Valley, who is running against Bob Filner, the only one in the local area who is willing to talk about abortion? You would think from reading the campaign statements of all the candidates that abortion didn't exist. Even the supposedly pro-life candidates -- Duncan Hunter, Darrell Issa, Randy Cunningham, Jay LeSeur -- never, never mention the a-word in public.
