June 1999 LETTERS
SISTER WENDY'S DOUBLE LIFE"Little Notes" for April offered a Sister Wendy video to the first 20 readers who described the best confessors in San Diego. The video was reviewed in the March edition of San Diego News Notes. I believe that Sister Wendy may lead a double life. On the one hand, she is the darling of the Catholic art and PBS crowd. On the other hand she is the darling of "gay" art lovers. What most Catholics probably don't know is that Sr. Wendy was interviewed by Robert Hilferty, Producer/Director of "Stop the Church," a film which memorialized and boasted of ACT-UP's desecration of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York during Advent in 1989. Hilferty's interview was published in the March, 1998 edition of Out Magazine, a slick, "gay" magazine, and reprinted in the Summer, 1998 "Dignity/USA Journal." Hilferty cites Sr. Wendy as saying that da Vinci "never had an emotional relationship with a woman. Boys, yes." Sr. Wendy tells Hilferty: "Everybody knows about Leonardo da Vinci. That was the way God made him." Sr. Wendy also remarks that da Vinci's way of painting the smile on the Mona Lisa gives a clue to his homosexuality. And not to just impute homosexuality to artists, Sr. Wendy also comments on a beautiful carving of Christ and St. John -- that the carving "shows that there is no such thing as right and wrong love." The carving shows Jesus and St. John "sharing tender intimacy." Sr. Wendy explains to Hilferty that what is happening "is clear to those who can read between the lines." Why are we honoring a nun who has not only bought into the homosexualist lifestyle, but propagates it? Laurette Elsberry
(To Broderick Barker, author of "Confessions" column) I read your column in the March News Notes[See Confessions, March 1999]. I know about the timidity you wrote about. It's not supposed to be there (in here). It's called doubt. And the "sacrament" of Confirmation which was pushed on us didn't do the job of destroying the doubt within us, either. So where does the holy inner strength we need come from? It comes from deep within us, of course. Somehow, we have all been separated from that true source of strength and courage. And none of the churches have the Way to true strength anymore. Just a few priests and ministers and rabbis. Maybe Harry Neely has found it, but more than likely, he is hypnotizing himself through thinking. If you're really, really looking for the Way to true inner strength, please listen to Roy Masters. You won't be disappointed. He is a repented man. He has counseled many priests who came to him when they were deeply troubled. He isn't working against the Catholic Church. He can help you to become a better Catholic (but not until you are really ready -- if you're not sure -- wait. WARNING: don't just read him for curiosity.) If you're interested, please let me know and I'll send you a free brochure. Robert Morrissey
I would very much like to have extra subscriptions to pass out to others here in Milwaukee and elsewhere in Wisconsin. Call to Action is now in control of our archdiocese throughout the parishes. We haven't seen a truthful Catholic newspaper dealing with local issues in a very long time, and I am hoping that seeing one done as well as yours may build the desire to do the same here, in time. God bless you all. Barbara Netz |
