SEPTEMBER 2000 LETTERS
HOMEWORK In his letter in the July issue of News Notes, Fr. Rawley Myers expressed something that I have believed for some time, that is if one is to be a good Catholic (especially in today's day and age), he must do his own homework. Whether or not one reads Chesterton, a basic familiarity with scripture, the Catechism, and other Church documents, and an honest look at one's own life and the world about him will more than clearly demonstrate the reasonableness of the Catholic faith. Greg Mockeridge Please refer to the July/August article, "Planned Parenthood Becomes Local Giant." The Planned Parenthood/Allred lawsuit regarding alleged unfair business practices is reminiscent of hungry (human?) vultures fighting over the lucrative carcasses of innocent unborn children. Planned Parenthood and Edward Allred epitomize the diabolical insatiable human greed at the expense of morality and precious God-given human life. To compound this horrible slaughter of the innocent unborn, the state of California has recently budgeted approximately $35 million dollars for direct funding of abortion next year. Our tax money will continue to line the greedy deep pockets of abortionists, against the will of all God-fearing taxpayers. When is this moral insanity going to cease? Stephen J. Conway Please do not continue to send me News Notes. I find the tone of your publication to be negative and reactionary, and I fear that you are driving many people away from the church with your ultra-conservative political and religious views. As a Catholic layman you certainly do not represent my views. And I think Jesus had a thing or two to say about hypocrisy and phariseeism. Mark Mattivi I was surprised to find two Coronado doctors on your list of abortionists. I don't remember them being on your last list. A friend of mine says she will stop going to one of them, so I guess the list does serve a purpose even if I am too gutless to stand in front of their offices with a pro-life sign. Maybe someone else will. It's a wonder to me that these abortionists don't try to lay a restraining order on News Notes for publishing the list. Some day it will come to that. Wishing you a long and safe life. E.K. Rembrandt I question the value of your abortionist list. Seems to me that pro-lifers already know who they are, so that the list ends up being free advertising for these baby-killers. I mean prices, address -- why not offer rides to their offices. Sure, most of your readers are Catholics, but then Catholics, too, succumb to temptation and constitute a hefty percentage of women getting abortions. Larry Soong |
