LETTERS September 2003
SO LOWI could not believe you could stoop so low as to link Congressman Filner with child porn in the headline of your July/August issue of your so-called "newspaper" [see "Filner Fends Off Child Porn Charge"]. You know he has not been alleged, or charged or linked in any way with child porn, but you went ahead with the lowest form of journalism of all. Shame ... shame ... shame on you. SINNERS WASHED I am responding to some of the letters I have read in your publication regarding the unrighteous views on homosexuality. If one looks at 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, this verse would be read, "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." All of these sinners, including homosexuals, were washed and changed by our Heavenly Father. They were forgiven and they were transformed into what God intended them to be. All sinners can be freed from the grips of the infernal one if they turn to the Lord and His Word. PRODIGAL SONS AND DAUGHTERS Phil asked a question in the SD News Notes July/August, 2003 issue. His question was "Why are straight people so scared of gays and lesbians?" It is difficult to answer without wondering why you even ask, and what your thought process is in thinking that 'straight' people are scared of you because of your homosexuality. I am not, nor have I ever been, afraid of you. And I think that the large majority of people feel the same. There is a fear of the gay agenda, which is being forced upon on children in schools; laws being approved which deviate from the common good; and the immorality in the plots portrayed by the media showing shame and humiliation as entertainment -- all under the guise of tolerance and diversity. When people protest to the filth and immorality that is being flaunted to extremes, they are accused of hate speech; viewed as intolerant to diversity and freedom of expression; labeled homophobic, called right-wing bigots, religious fanatic, not in step with the times, and too conservative. I fear when society overlooks scientific facts which prove there is no "gay gene", and the increasing numbers of teens and young adults who are HIV positive. I abhor the rude, snide remarks to people who struggle with same-sex attraction and are told that there is no hope for change, or they do not have the right or choice to change. Many have succeeded in coming out of homosexuality, and if they can overcome their homosexual feelings -- either by nurturing their natural heterosexuality or living chastely; then there is hope for the rest. Liberal politicians are patronizing your views, writing laws giving you 'the right' to partake in homosexual acts, and the privileges of marriage, redefining it. It's no secret now that many lawmakers also struggle with homosexuality, and are trying to justify their disordered sexual feelings by composing, and embracing man-made laws which are helping to form society's conscience. They can make laws until they're blue in the face, but none of them will stop the outcry from the people who believe these laws are contrary to God's laws which have remained unchanged since the beginning of time. You are not a special class of people because of your sexual inclinations. It is what you do, not who you are. Might your misology be causing a truthphobia for you and other gay and lesbians who fear the curtain is being pulled away from the narcissistic lifestyle, and the intentional ambiguities of the gay agenda? Rob's letter in the same issue stated, "As Catholics we come from a church of hate and rules and fear." Nothing could be further from the truth, Rob. I suggest you attend a Courage meeting. You are unconditionally loved by Jesus Christ, and His Church who care and love enough, even to the point of rejection, to instruct us in the Way of Our Lord; constantly reminding us of God's Truth; and to admonish sinful behavior in order for all of us, sinners that we are, to get up when we fall, ask and receive forgiveness, and accept the abundant graces and mercy Jesus Christ died to give us. Prodigal sons and daughters fear not, please come home to the Catholic Church. Peace be with you. Theresa Ellis San Diego
A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I wish to answer the pro-homosexual letters of Rob and Mr. Lepen (July/August issue). One need not go through the moral theology and the teachings of the Holy Writ to establish the heinous nature of sexual sin of whatever kind. What concerns me is the absurdity of portraying homosexuals as harmless people, as playful and jolly, as the people next door, as would-be parents, as everything that is decent. Decades ago I was working toward my medical degree and spent about ten weeks of a summer as a technician in a state psychiatric facility. Before I left I saw that a young guy my age had been brought in. He had been studying for the priesthood and had become severely disturbed. He was violent and often would have to be strapped to a bed in a large camisole or kept in a cell. Sometimes he was lucid, and I would play cards or chess with him. His prognosis was unpromising. After I left, I learned that homosexual employees would go into his room when he was strapped to a bed and would fondle him and commit other actions upon him. Toward the end of August, I received a call from his mother one morning. He had been found dead that morning. I went to his wake and saw him dressed in the habit of the order to which he aspired. His parents and brothers later gave me several photos of him in his habit during happier times. His mother gave me his Roman missal. Decades have gone by, and I can still see his innocent face. There was a cover-up by the staff. No witnesses stepped forth. No one was ever convicted of his murder. I had an idea who did it, a huge homosexual attendant who was on duty the night he died. But there was no way to prove it. To those who say that homosexuals are limp-wrist types or sit-com characters full of jibes or upstanding citizens deserving our respect, I say: You lie. In the shadow world of this accursed thing are the countless deaths and the numerous souls who have gone down to perdition because people assumed that this sin can be laughed at. For it is of Satan, destroyer of life, and its seductions are Legion. Until my last breath, I shall fight it. Anonymous San Diego
FURTHER PERMISSION SUPERFLUOUS Recently, Mr. Carl Horst referred to the possibility of the Tridentine (TRADITIONAL) Latin Mass becoming more widespread in response to a possible "universal indult," that, as he reports, "...would give any priest in good standing the privilege of offering the Tridentine Latin Mass without obtaining any further permission" [see "Who Wants to Go Back?," July/August]. First, it is important to correct the misnomer of the "Tridentine Latin Mass" as the dogmatic Council of Trent did NOT "institute" the (Traditional) Latin Mass, but rather Pope St. Pius V codified the TRADITIONAL Latin Mass for all time with the Bull, Quo Primum. In addition, the idea that a "universal indult" "...would give any priest in good standing the privilege of offering the Tridentine [TRADITIONAL] Latin Mass without obtaining any further permission" is superfluous since all priests ALREADY have that right! Please, in these days of confusion -- sometimes deliberate -- it is important to get the facts straight -- straight from a Sainted Pope's mouth! E. De Lalla Troy, New Hampshire
