LETTERS December 2002
TAKE IT UP WITH GODI could not understand why all the people in the Letters to Editor section chose to defend homosexuality and car lot owner Bob Baker's homosexual position. [See Letters, October, November.] Yes, we all sin, but sin is not something to be proud of or defend. Practicing homosexuals are flaunting their sinful ways, and those who defend them are wrong. If people feel so strongly in favor of homosexuality, then take it up with God, for He has made the rules that says practicing homosexuality is a sin. Let's stop condemning Christians who speak out against homosexuality as being wrong. They are only trying to live out their beliefs in a constructive manner to bring sinners back into the fold. NOT JUMPING FOR JOY Some months ago, I wrote, and you printed my letter concerning Time Warner cable and a need to advocate for the inclusion of EWTN channel. Thank you for printing my letter. I gained encouragement and, I hope, a friend, Jean, who also contacted Time Warner. Last month I read in the brochure that comes with my bill that in a Spanish extra-package commitment EWTN would soon be available. I wrote to them again, but this time to marketing coordinator, Lauri Thompson. I just received her reply: "We hope to add EWTN full time to our digital line-up at the end of the year." I will not jump for joy, because I fear the "digital" means that it will only be included in another add-on package. The added cost does not fit into my retired maintenance income. This may be true, too, with other retired people. It is recognition of the power of writing. Since Ms. Thompson includes, "We have heard from other customers like yourself" in her letter, I would like to thank those who did write and to encourage others who want their issues heard to write to the appropriate places. I would also like to thank our Spanish-speaking fellow citizens. Since the adding of EWTN came first in Spanish, I believe Time Warner was encouraged by their contacts. I remember well how I complained to San Diego City Schools when Easter was missing from its annual Multi Cultural Calendar for at least three years. I felt ignored. I am convinced that it was the Spanish American community who brought Easter back into the calendar. Mrs. Sally Kuglen Kearny Mesa
NOT A CATHOLIC It would seem to me that the letter from David Michael in the November issue regarding the Bob Baker ads contains a glaring error. Mr. Michael may be proud and he may be a heterosexual, but he definitely is not a Roman Catholic. Since when did the end justify the means? B.B. Kensington
BOYCOTT DECEMBER NIGHTS To all Christians and their pastors and to all Christian leaders of the city and county of San Diego: The Christmas at the Prado celebration at Balboa Park has been renamed "December Nights" in order that the name of Jesus Christ be removed from a celebration that was in honor of His birth. I hear no protests from you, and because of your silence I have assumed the role of bringing this protest to you and requesting that you call for the total boycott of this event at once. For too long Christians have been guilty of cowardice in this fight which seeks to root out everything that is of God from our national life. Now, in this time and in this place, let your voices of protest be heard that Christ may be upheld. Do not in any way support this event. Do not go to it. I urge everyone to boycott it. We do not need to join with pagans and unbelievers in their efforts to spite the Savior. God is not mocked. Any Christian who supports this event is a turncoat and Judas. I have seen the removal of Christmas carols from our schools, the removal of prayers, the trashing of the Bible, the attack on every vestige of Christian tradition from our national life. At last it came home to San Diego with the effort to remove the crosses at Soledad and Helix. How long will you be silent and lurk in the shadows as the enemies of Christ prevail? How long will you accept the savaging of Christianity and not step forward to defend the Holy Faith of your ancestors? For my part I shall continue to call on everyone who believes in Jesus Christ not to participate in this pagan and insulting celebration. It is time for all Christians worthy of the name of Christian to take a stand. I have had enough, and I hope that you will have the guts to join me in this boycott. Jesus Christ, the everlasting King, is not hurt by this foolish insult to His name, but we certainly must uphold His name in everything we do. Michael Suozzi La Mesa
