FATHER HOLTEY'S PROBLEMSAfter News Notes being ahead of the curve regarding Father Holtey at St. Charles Borromeo parish ("Tabernacle consigned to cry room," October 2003 and "What do they teach those drawn to the Church?", December 2003) I was disappointed to see no follow-up on the continuing scandal at St. Charles. As you know, Father Holtey has been implicated in a child porn federal investigation, and further did not deny his guilt in his letter of resignation to St. Charles. I was amazed to hear of the continued support he garners at St. Charles after his actions over the past years. I have read reports that there were no indications of Father Holtey's problems before the federal raid at St. Charles. This is nothing but a bold, bald-faced lie, desperately concocted to cover up for the diocese. Father Holtey stated in the R.C.I.A. program he had been turned down the first time he had applied to the priesthood. Why was he turned down the first time he applied to the priesthood? Father Holtey told the congregation at St. Charles he has suffered from depression for three years, in which time he took a leave of absence from the priesthood, further proving the absurdity of the diocese's claim of there being no indication of problems involving Father Holtey. What was the reason for Father Holtey's depression for three years? And where did he go and what was he doing on his leave of absence? In the last meeting of the R.C.I.A. program in 2002, Father Holtey told of his recent trip to Thailand --not exactly a Catholic pilgrimage site. Add the amount of intentional heretical teachings in the R.C.I.A. program, the wreckovation of a church that is architecturally designed to house the tabernacle front and center, and the persecution of loyal Catholics in his parish, and there were plenty of indications of trouble from Father Holtey. Father Holtey's attendance at Mass was also erratic, as he missed at least one out of every four ten o'clock Sunday Masses while at St. Charles. Why? The troubles at St. Charles, however, go deeper than Father Holtey. They involve a group of people at the parish who are dedicated to changing the Catholic Church to suit their political agenda; hence they need a priest that will support their disloyal view of Catholicism, no matter what the cost. MORE HOLTEY
The recent announcement of a federal criminal probe of Internet child pornography called Operation Child Predator has apparently enmeshed Father Gary Holtey, a parish priest at Saint Charles Borromeo parish. This is the third major incident of illicit internet activity involving a local priest of the San Diego diocese. A few years ago, Father Robert White was discovered to be trolling the Internet for sexual purposes. He was sent to rehab and reassigned to Food for the Poor in Florida after local parishes refused his services. Then Father Jim Mott, an Augustinian priest, was exposed as a participant of Saint Sebastian's Angels, a notorious worldwide homosexual network operating out of South Africa. Mott was one of dozens of priests involved; a South African auxiliary bishop was the ringleader. Mott was sent for rehabilitation and is now reportedly in the Orange County diocese. Mott reportedly worked with Father Holtey in homosexual outreach at Santa Sophia parish a few years ago. In addition, Holtey reportedly had odd vacation habits for a Roman Catholic priest. Are these incidents connected? Certainly these incidents demand a response to the following questions: Does the diocese have a computer policy for its priests and employees? Will it be necessary in the future to install filters on the PC's in order to keep these priests out of trouble? What is the diocese policy on vacations, such as unsupervised trips to world hot spots such as Southeast Asia and Mexico? Must the priest account for monies spent and mode of travel as well as destination and traveling companions? In its recent report to the Bishops, The John Jay College found that 81 percent of Church abuse victims were young male victims of homosexual priests, bishops, and laity. Yet after a key United States Conference of Catholic Bishops meeting, a diocese spokesman reiterated its intent to continue homosexual ordinations. This is in contravention to Canon Law Digest 1961 and subsequent directives to ordain only those with distinctly masculine characteristics. How long can our diocese resist these directives? How many scandals can it survive, following allegations against Fathers Kraft, Galindo, Koerner, Becker, and Depp? Ralph W. WAKE UP SAN DIEGO I was so glad to see the letter from Allyson Smith printed in the San Diego Union-Tribune 5/20/04, regarding the Youth Pride festival held 5/1/04 at the Gay/Lesbian Center in Hillcrest. ("Better to Have a Millstone," June 2004) I had intended to write a letter of outrage at the abuse of young children that occurred at this function. Ms. Smith's letter further inspired me to do this and at least add my voice to hers. On May 6, 2004, I listened to the Stacy Taylor radio show on KOGO, the topic being the festival mentioned above. I was shocked to find out that anal lubricants were handed out to fourteen-year-old children; the same children were encouraged to subscribe to pornographic homosexual magazines that were on display; adult transvestites danced with young boys; and vendors promoted their sexual enhancement products. Who in authority in San Diego cares about young people? Added to this most deplorable treatment of minors was the almost unbelievable presence of the County of San Diego Health & Human Services van, set up across the street, to test young people for AIDS and counseling. Wow, that's a big help! Condone the participation in behavior that brings about destruction, and test them for it on the other side of the street. But according to Dr. Wilma J. Wooten, M.D., MPH, County Health & Human Services, Office of AIDS Coordination, in a phone conversation with myself, being there does not mean they condone the behavior. Well, if you drive by and see a county van involved in an event, what else would one think? If the county really wants to help our young people, try stopping the behavior that leads to their destruction. In addition to this bizarre scene, picture the police who were there, sadly not to stop the abuse of minors, but who were called in by the Gay/Lesbian Center to question the rights of the people across the street who were videotaping the event. Gee, I wonder what they could possibly want to hide! Wake up San Diego! Is this how you want your hard earned tax dollars to be utilized? God help us! Janet Ross San Diego
